RSPCA SA Animal Care Centre

Developed in conjunction with Ashley Halliday Architects, the design of the new RSPCA SA Animal Care Centre in O’Halloran Hill establishes a setting that supports the wellbeing of animals, staff and visitors across the seven-hectare campus. Framed by native grasses and layered indigenous planting, the landscape softens the built form and creates a welcoming, park-like arrival reflective of the national park adjacent. A network of accessible pathways and generous spaces guide movement across the site, reinforcing legibility while encouraging moments of pause and connection.

Water sensitive urban design principles are integrated throughout, with permeable paving and planted swales assisting in stormwater management and contributing to long-term environmental resilience. Shade trees and biodiverse planting reduce the heat island effects, provide habitat opportunities and support food resourcing for the native animals of the Wildlife hospital. Open lawn areas offer space for informal gathering, staff respite, animal education programs and community events.

The landscape is both purposeful and understated — a functional, sustainable setting that reflects RSPCA SA’s commitment to care, stewardship and community connection.
