Jocelyn Chao

Graduate Landscape Architect

Profile

Originally from Taiwan, I bring a multidisciplinary background in landscape architecture, urban planning and urban design to WAX Design. Pursuing further studies and now practising in Australia has broadened my perspective on culture, community and the role of landscape in everyday life.

I’m passionate about creating people-focused public spaces and sustainable, healthy living environments, and I believe thoughtful landscape design has the power to strengthen communities, influence behaviour and enhance long-term wellbeing. My design philosophy is simple: design shapes behaviour, people shape place, and place continually inspires better design.

My journey to WAX began through the AILA Mentor Program, where I was drawn to the studio’s collaborative culture and people-first approach. Since joining the team, I’ve embraced every opportunity to deepen my understanding of Australian design practice while contributing to a diverse range of meaningful projects.

I enjoy the technical side of design, with a particular focus on documentation, detailed drawing coordination and clear visual communication that transforms ideas into deliverable outcomes.

Outside the studio, you’ll find me volunteering, teaching art, hiking, gardening or exploring nature — activities that continually fuel my creativity, knowledge and connection to the landscapes I help shape.
