Hamilton Secondary College

Centred around the striking new Performing Arts Building designed by Totalspace Design, the landscape design sought to enhance the entrance to the school whilst celebrating the new building. From the new car park and pedestrian entrance, a wide paved entry path leads you into the heart of the school. Seating nodes and raised planters provide areas for students to socialise under new trees and within dense native landscapes. The design enabled the retention of large eucalypt trees on site, which enhance the natural character of the site.

The southern side of the Performing Arts Building provides space for students at recess and lunch with picnic benches integrated within landscaped garden beds. This is enhanced with an architectural shade connection between the buildings, with deciduous vines to grow up and over the structure.

Off the internal performance space, the timber ground surface continues to the exterior, forming a flush deck with adjacent elevated timber seating. This provides opportunities for students to have productions in either internal or external spaces.
