Quentin Kenihan Inclusive Playspace
In collaboration with the City of Adelaide, the project honours Quentin Kenihan’s legacy, creating an inclusive playspace in the heart of Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka (Park 14). The playspace features a series of gardens, each offering a range of unique play experiences suitable for all ages and abilities. There is a sound garden with a ring of musical instruments, including sculptural chimes, a xylophone and drums. The water garden has pumps, water troughs, bridges and weirs that provide a range of interactive experiences.
The playspace features wheelchair accessible trampolines, sensory gardens, a spinning carousel and rope climbing. In addition, there is a ‘Sway Fun’ seat and an accessible swing, both of which accommodate wheelchairs. It is surrounded by lush lawns, all-access paths, sheltered seating, accessible barbecue facilities and an accessible toilet with an accredited ‘changing places’ facility.
The design for the Quentin Kenihan Inclusive Playspace came about after extensive community engagement, including an inclusive play day which collected the community’s ideas on what they thought would create a great play experience.
