Walker Place

This project has delivered a new civic heart for Gawler. Initially conceived as part of a parking strategy, the community’s involvement through a co-design process has created a unique public space for Walker Place.

The delivery of garden beds, trees, new lighting and large areas for seating has increased the amenity of Walker Place beyond recognition. The retelling of Kaurna narratives and local stories creates a distinct sense of place.

The shared space design enables Walker Place to meet the community’s everyday needs for accessibility and parking. Integration of removable street furniture and catenary lighting enables the street to become a highly functional event space.

The project was completed in collaboration with Town of Gawler, Blu Built Constructions, Tonkin Engineering, Ecodynamics, Iguana Creative & Zagari Concrete.

The Town of Gawler been awarded a 2022 IPWEA Australasian Award of Excellence, with the project recieving ”Best Public Works Project of the Year under $2 million”.
